Future circulation of iPads, Laptops, Notebooks- desired uniformity of Procedures- reconsideration of what is needed.

1. Example: Keep forms on file for Adults- rechecking out iPads the next day. Once on file- use of checklist only for returning iPads?

Lab/ Checkoutables/ Tech Bar Plan Draft:

A. Rationale for number and type of devices:

B. Justification for devices chosen other than the IT approved Dell Lattitude 6530 (see above EIT links)

C. Maintenance Plan

D. Plan for use when devices not in Lab

Ex. of Public Library laptop checkout policy: http://www.cals.org/services/laptop-computers.aspx

Note: In above plans/draft differentiate between what is for staff needs and what is for patron needs.

Draft 1 of suggestion list:

Apples

2- Ipads

1-Macbook Pro or Macbook Air

Windows 8 Laptops

5- Lenovo Thinkpad X240

http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-x240.aspx

Laptops Windows 7

5- DELL 6530.

http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/latitude-e6540-laptop/pd?ST=+dell%20+latitude%20+e6540&dgc=ST&cid=263765&lid=4804546&acd=12309152537461010

A. Rationale: to have  Windows 7, Windows 8 machines, and 1 Mac available for both for patrons and staff to learn on.   Need 1 Ipad to be able to lead a class. 2nd Ipad for loaning out within Ipad class.

Class size limit is 12. For classes- would/could use- Macbook and laptops =11, plus Program room laptop= 12

Rationale for non-IT approved devices:

To be able to teach patrons how to use Windows 8 machines, to be able to teach an Ipads class, to be able to show how to use a Mac.

To enable staff to learn how to use Windows 8, Mac , and Ipad.

Maintenance plan: 3 yr warranty (available?) and ask FOl about willingness to replace.

Checkout plan: Could follow NorthPort example: Take photo ids and use written record to allow only in-house use- 4 hr checkouts.

Tech bar plan:

Idea #1: Imitate North Port E-Reader Tech bar:  (Borrow North Port's Ereader Tech bar on a Wed. to try?)

All staff would take turns manning Tech bar: (NP does 10-noon, Tues and Thurs.) Note: NP has one volunteer and one Staffer per tech bar session.

Set-up is in front of REF/ Circ desk on 2 folding tables-

Devices shown at NP techbar:

Surface RT laptop (Windows 7)

Google Nexus 7 tablet (Android)

Ipad

Nook

Kindle Paperwhite

(A notebook has the device name,-library card and pin (for each device) and other needed info attached to each device- such as Amazon account login for Kindle...)
