Apple Configurator and Ipad set-up notes page

Page history last edited by Victor Lorand 9 years, 6 months ago

1. 9/17 Erin did prepare and Supervise of the 10 Ipads.

Note: had to do a master Ipad with Staff profile and then copy one by one to get number sequence to match number on the Ipads.

   a. Question: can the Location services button be turned on (needed for Google maps and My library apps)

without having to re-prepare? Under Prepare - therefore don't checkmark skip in Location services- otherwise sets default as turned off

 b. With diagnostics on- excessive bandwidth used?

c. 9/17 staff profile allowed login to Apple Id and password in settings

d. was allowed to download Chrome and Google Drive

10/6/'14 Notes on using Apple Configurator with current "Profiles"

1. Under "Supervise"- without choosing a profile- there is a base profile.

2. To time effectively checkout an IPad to an adult patron- it will be needed to have them ready to go.

    A. Erin suggests having just two profiles- Adult and Youth...keep them preset on Adult- ready to checkout

    B. When staff uses - use "Assign" and "Checkout"- to the individual-  then when it is "Checked in"- person's info is saved

(1). To wipe person's info- it is needed to "Supervise" and "Restore" "backup with Apps"- and is now ready for the next Adult user...(if we make the base profile an Adult Patron)

TO Research:

We are suspecting ‘everything’ is wiped- (say you borrow Ipad#2 with Staff profile)

Then, for example,  it is set to Patron use profile, returned and reset to Patron use base profile- what is left when it is reset to Staff profile and reborrowed.

am guessing only the apps are left…

Erin comments: can possibly? do a back-up for the returned Ipad---so that the info/input saved files/operations are not lost? (How much time to do the back-up?)

Observed 9/24/2014 : Apps added under staff login (same apple ID as Mac-mini- are added to staff Profile apps) Ipad borrowed was logged in with the Mac-mini EQ REF Apple Id.

Research question:

how much can be saved to the cloud?

  1. Recommended action- make a work Apple ID (not attached to credit card) for  use in  programs using the Ipads

9/26/2014 Erin notes:

In addition to using profiles, we have the option to create users (ex. Erin, Cris…), so that we can “check out” the iPad out when we are using it.  This will save our personalized data, apps, docs, etc.,  and will show up the next time we “check out” an iPad (even if it’s a different one).

Not an option for the public, but I think it will help for staff use. E.T.
